  THE JAMES NATHANIEL HOLLAND INTERNATIONAL MUSIC COMPETITION

    Prizes and Categories:

    Individual (soloist and piano accompaniment):                                 $100USD, plus publicity and promotion
    Small Ensemble (duets to 6 ):                                                            $200USD, plus publicity and promotion
    Large Ensemble (performance organizations, or 6 or more):          $500USD, plus publicity and promotion
    Multi-Media (dance mixes, digitally produced, jazz improvs):        $100USD, plus publicity and promotion

    Deadline and Winner Announcement:

     Deadlines are October 1st for entry information and October 31st for submissions each year. The winners will be announced on the following November 11th. The competition reserves the right to not select a winner, or select more than one winner in each category.

    Description:

     This annual competition is open to all acoustic musicians and multi-media technichians of any age and is designed to promote the performance, visibility and support of the music of American/Costa Rican classical music composer James Nathaniel Holland.

     To enter, first, one must send the following information via e-mail to james.nathaniel.holland@gmail.com   Each participant(s) must select from the compositions of James Nathaniel Holland ( Please refer to the compositions page at: List of compositions by James Nathaniel Holland or YouTube channel).

     Second, the participant needs to make a payment of their entry fee via PayPal to the same e-mail address above. Fees for each category are as follows:

Individual: $25USD
Small Ensemble: $75USD
Large Ensemble: $125USD
Multi-Media: $25USD

     Each participant will receive confirmation of receipt of their information and payment. When all of the above have been sufficiently received, music scores, of the piece or selection, will be sent to the acoustic participants. Acoustic Participants are granted a one-time permission/license to prepare their entries.

     (For Multi-media participants only:  The participant needs to specify what material of JNH compositions it is that they require, e.g. visual, audio, or video) and what they plan to do with it. If the material sent to the participant of JNH Holland is digitally manipulated, differed, arranged or varied from the original or demo recording sent, it must be reviewed first, and a written approval must be received from the Competition before any work is done. Multi-media participants also need to guarantee that all copyrights are cleared and permitted if any additional artwork, photos, or audio are used in their submissions.)

     Fourth, acoustic participants will prepare a quality recording in MP3 format or video in MP4 format of a an exact, faithful performance of the JNH composition or selection. They may then send it by e-mail (see above) or post it to any website and provide the link. Multi-media participants can submit their entries likewise.

     Again deadlines are October 1st for entry information and October 31st for the submission each year. The winners will be announced on the following November 11th. The competition reserves the right to not select a winner, or select more than one winner, and all participants agree to the terms of this competition. Future licenses, permissions, agreements, contracts, collaborations from the composer will be discussed and determined apart from this contest.
